SAVE THE
MINDEN ER
The most vulnerable populations of Minden, Haliburton, and surrounding areas have lost accessible, safe, and reliable health care.

Reopen the Minden ER

About the Reopen the Minden ER Committee
The Reopen Minden’s ER Committee is a grassroots movement dedicated to restoring full emergency medical services to the Minden, Ontario community and addressing the wider issue of rural ER closures in Ontario. Composed of concerned residents, cottagers, advocates, and community leaders, the initiative seeks to raise awareness of the critical need for local emergency healthcare services and ensure they receive life-saving care.
Minden services a wide geographic region, with a disproportionately high poverty rate and limited transportation options. The majority of residents serviced by the Minden ER are seniors over 60 years of age with many lacking family physicians. Additionally, the seasonal influx of visitors quadruples the population during the summer months, making the Minden ER a critical resource.
UPDATE ON OUR ACTIONS AND A CALL FOR CONTINUED SUPPORT
OPEN LETTER
In response to the recent closure of the Minden Emergency Room (ER) by Haliburton Highlands Health Services (HHHS), our group, Save Minden ER, has taken several actions to ensure our voices are heard and that the concerns of our community are addressed.
We have demanded an urgent public meeting with the CEO and Board Chair of HHHS to discuss the decision-making process, the timing of the closure, and access to the organization’s transition plan. We have also called for a thorough assessment of the closure’s impact on vulnerable populations, healthcare staff, regional growth, and local infrastructure.
Despite the challenges we face, we are encouraged by the support we have received from the community, local elected officials, healthcare professionals, and others who share our concerns about the closure’s potential consequences.
Our group’s efforts have raised awareness, but we need your continued support. We urge you to join us in advocating for a transparent and inclusive decision-making process that considers the needs and concerns of all stakeholders.
By working together, we can ensure that our community remains informed, engaged, and committed to preserving access to essential healthcare services.
